Texas Caught a Cold

Texas Caught a Cold

God damn. This past week has been something else. Winter Storm Uri hit Texas, and state shit itself. I was fortunate that I was already living the COVID lifestyle. I had loads of bottled water and non perishable food thanks to The Right Reverend‘s predicting that the fall of the republic could happen. On top of being prepared with food and water, I filled up both tubs with water just in case. I was set.

On top of being ready, I am extremely lucky. Where I live had power and water longer than most. Eventually, I did lose both as Texas simply didn’t have anymore power to spare so came the rolling blackouts. Even though I was good, I wanted to go shopping for some more food and water, cause you never know, and tap water became unusable. So, off I went into the wild.

Holy shit. Driving to a street that had power and then shopping the few stores there that were still open sucked. The line outside of Randall’s was stupid long, and it was jammed packed with Rona carriers at the Kroger’s. The first time out, there was no way I was getting water or even a single log of firewood; my apartment wasn’t actually that cold to be honest so whatever. Again, I luckily had supplies at home so not a big deal. But, I had to go out daily just to score some water when a store was restocking. I managed to do that a few times before my Amazon shipment of water got in today, and my sister is heading back into town with water in tow. But damn, it’s been some funky eatin’ with everything good off the shelves.

Yea, I’m tired of foraging for water. Maybe I’m tired of Texas too. Some bullshit that never should have happened. We’ll see when things get back to … damn, is the pandemic normal?
